Narcissistic Personality
Narcissistic personality refers to a pattern of behavior where an individual has an excessive perception of self-worth, a strong need for admiration and a lack of empathy for others. Narcissistic individuals often have low self-esteem and are sensitive to the slightest criticism.
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is when an individual displays excessive narcissistic personality for a prolonged period of time. It can cause tension in a person's relationships and make it difficult for him/her to fit into new social environments. NPD can lead to or be present concurrently with other mental health conditions such as paranoid personality disorders and depression.
NPD can be treated with psychotherapy, where a psychotherapist will teach the individual how to evaluate their thoughts and behaviors. A therapist can also help to address any underlying self-esteem issues. Message our providers to learn how they can help.
